Verizon to acquire Yahoo's core business for US$4.83bn

Verizon Communications and Yahoo have entered into a definitive agreement under which Verizon will acquire Yahoo's core internet business for some US$4.83bn in cash. The acquisition will see Yahoo integrated with AOL – which Verizon bought last year for US$4.4bn – under the leadership of Marni Walden, EVP of product innovation and new businesses organisation at Verizon.

Global Eagle Entertainment buys EMC for US$550m to expand into maritime and mobility

US inflight communications firm Global Eagle Entertainment is buying satellite connectivity provider EMC in a US$550m deal to diversify into the maritime and mobility markets. Its transformative acquisition includes EMC's 49% of WMS, a joint venture shared with US telco AT&T that provides global cellular roaming services to offshore vessels.
